ZANESVILLE -- Donald Lee Collins, 76, of Zanesville, passed away at 1:00 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2006 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House after an extended illness. Born January 30, 1930 in Zanesville to the late Hillis Gale and Mabel Hutchins Collins, he was a graduate of Lash High School in 1947 and was a life-time member of the ZHS Alumni Assn. Don was employed at Armco for 41 years and retired in 1991 as a state-licensed stationery engineer. He served in the 3rd Armored Division of the U.S. Army, was a former financial secretary at First United Methodist Church and a former trustee at Faith United Methodist Church. He served on various boards and committees at both churches and was a former member of the Zanesville Yacht Club. He was active in the West Muskingum Athletic Boosters, serving as a treasurer and also managed the concession Quarterback Club, the Land of Lakes Airstream Club, Country Campers Western Square Dance Club and Zanes & Janes Western Square Dance Club where he held various offices. He enjoyed fishing, boating, western round dancing and was an avid golfer. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and attending all events involving his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jackie Spillman Collins, whom he married May 6, 1956, of the home; three children, Autumn Lee (Richard) Wilden, Scott (Mary Ann) Collins, and LouAnn (Michael) Maxwell; five grandchildren, Kelli Jo and Karlie Collins, Tori Farmer, and Colt Maxwell all of Zanesville; and Kyle Collins of Miami University; a brother, Robert (Emily) Collins and sister, Jean Vandivier of Zanesville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at The Snouffer Funeral Home, 1150 W. Military Rd., Zanesville. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006 in The Snouffer Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Dennis Baker & Rev. Doris Flynn officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by George Selsam VFW Post 1058. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Coburn United Methodist Church or Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, Morrison House.
