Herman Young

Herman Albert Young, 86 of Gratiot passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Genesis Hospital. Herman was born June 5, 1930 in Stovertown, Ohio to Albert and Ava Young Orr. He retired from CSX Railroad on December 31, 1987. Herman and his wife, Betty Young, had been members of the Zane Trail Campers, Land of Lake Airstream Club and S.O.W.E.R.S. They spent 27 years wintering at Travelers Rest in Dade City, FL. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, whom he was married to for 66 years, he is also survived by his son David A. (Betty) Young of Newark; his daughter, Trudy O. (Mark) Lataster of Newark; a sister Wanda Phillis of Gratiot; a sister in law Patty Fry (Frank McCafferty) of Newark; brothers in law Raymond (Connie) Blackstone of Gratiot and Terry Blackstone of Hopewell; two step brothers Harry Orr Jr. and Orrville (Audrey) Orr; four grandchildren Crystal Beers, Ava (Gary) Stratford, Noah Young and Racie (Greg) Careins; and seven great grandchildren; a friend who was like a brother Dick (Evelyn) Blackstone; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Susie Tharp and a grandson, Anthony Lataster. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 in the Snouffer Chapel at 11AM with Rev. Mike McGuire officiating.
