Juanita Mae (Matheny) Gabriel

ZANESVILLE

Juanita Mae Gabriel, 92, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023, at her residence. She was born December 30, 1930, in Dayton to the late John H. and Martha B. Baker Matheny. She was a clerk of Springfield Township Trustees for many years and retired after 35 years as a manager at the Muskingum County Clerk of Courts office. She was a former member of South Zanesville United Methodist Church. Juanita was a member of the National Secretaries Club, Muskingum County Republican Club, Wednesday Card Club and Golf Group. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing and traveling around the world.

She is survived by two daughters: Diane (Mike) McElfresh and Kimberly Gabriel DeMent; four grandchildren: Julie (Tim) Young, Angie McElfresh, Jesse (Kelli) DeMent and Jaden McElfresh; seven great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren and a great great great grandchild; a sister in law Margie Matheny Moffett; and special friends: Susan Hand, Beverly Wolford, Sharon Latimer, Pat Coury, Norma Bowman and Kimmie A.

In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert Gabriel, who passed away April 13, 2018; three brothers: James A. Matheny, Robert R. Matheny and Robert J. Matheny; a sister Grace M. Lytle; a granddaughter Nichole McElfresh; and great grandson Cevin Collins.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 7PM, Tuesday, January 31, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE.  Funeral services will be held at 1PM Wednesday in the Snouffer Chapel.  Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
