ZANESVILLE

Mary Elizabeth Carter the youngest child born to the late William Mickens and Louise M. Bailey. She was born June 6, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and also continued her education at Wilford Cosmetology School. After her graduated she was employed at Gimbels Department store as a Hair Stylist. Later years she was employed at Little Treasure's Day Care and Precious Jewels Day.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age at the Second Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of her grandfather, Rev. King James Carter. After his passing she remained a member under the leadership of Rev. James Moore, Sr.  Mary enjoyed singing and joined the Carter Choir, Mass Choir of Second Mt Zion Baptist Church

Mary met and married Richard Earl Carter who preceded her in death.  From this this union, three sons were born Richard Earl Jr., James Lee and Joseph King.

Mary enjoyed crocheting, making dolls and different outfits. She also liked fishing which she did often with her late sister Doris. In Mary's later years she moved with her children to Zanesville, where she united with the Truth Tabernacle Church.

Mary leave to mourn her children Richard (Janel) Carter, James (Rhonda) Carter and Joseph (Sarah) Carter; 11 grandchildren; a sister-in-law Bernice Carter of Philadelphia; two sisters: Eloise Dance of Portland, OR and Wilhelmina (Norman) Haskins of Philadelphia, PA;  a brother Rev. Theodore (Angela) Bailey of  Philadelphia,PA; a special Aunt Mrs. Catherine Spain of Philadelphia, PA; and host of wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
