Phillip P. Kelton

Phillip P. Kelton, 93 passed away January 13, 2018. He was born January 23, 1924 in Hanover Township, Columbiana County to the late Charles P. and Sylvia Lovick Kelton. Phillip retired in 1986 with 34 years of service from Columbia Gas, where he worked at the District Office in Cambridge. During his career he worked in Salem, Alliance and Cambridge. He moved to Zanesville in 1985 and was a volunteer at Christ’s Table and Meals on Wheels. He worked on the set design committee of Zaney Follies for 16 years. Phillip was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the Lisbon Masonic Lodge 65, a charter member of the American Legion Post 684 in Hanoverton and most recently joined the American Legion Post 29 in Zanesville. He served our country and protected our freedom in the United States Marines during World World II, serving in the Pacific theater, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He is survived by his wife Ellen Bushong Kelton, whom he married October 6, 1984; two sons: Patrick (Jane) Kelton and James (Betzi) Kelton; a daughter in law Tracy Kelton; two step sons: Kevin (Cindy) Bushong and Kirby (Jennifer) Bushong; a step daughter Karen Norman; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Doris Woods Kelton, who passed away in 1979; a son Michael Kelton; two brothers: Fred Kelton and John Kelton; two sisters: Marion L. Pickens and Helen Kelton; and a grandson Bryce Bushong.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 5PM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W. MILITARY ROAD. The funeral service will follow at 5PM in the Snouffer Chapel with Rev. Joy Wigal officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 29 and VFW Post 1058, Zanesville.  Burial will be held at 12PM, Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Grove Hill Cemetery, Hanoverton, OH.
