Thomas David Charles, 78 of Zanesville, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Genesis Hospital. He was born April 20, 1940 in Shawnee, the son of Thomas Arthur and Sylvia Pearl Charles. He married Caren L. (Embrey) Charles on November 6, 1982 and was a long time member of the Norval Park Church of Christ where he served as an Elder and trustee for over 20 years.
Tom graduated in 1958 from New Lexington High School and the Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science and Masters in Agricultural Economics and Statistics. He retired from the United States Treasury Department as a Revenue Officer following 38 years of federal service. Tom served as a Captain in the United States Air Force on Okinawa during the Vietnam era. He was also an Auxiliary officer with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 35 years. Retiring as a Lt. Colonel (State Commander), he also served as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff and in the Mounted Sheriff’s Posse with the Perry County Sheriff’s Department, where his dad was a Deputy Sheriff.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Jonathan (Brittany) Charles of Reynoldsburg; two granddaughters: Reagan and McKinley Charles; and a sister Charlotte (Charles) Tatman of New Lexington.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM Thursday, June 7, 2018 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W. MILITARY ROAD. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Friday, June 8, 2018 in the Snouffer Chapel with Keith Kress and Ron Owens officiating. Burial to follow in Zanesville Memorial Park with full military honors by the United States Air Force, in conjunction with the VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29
