Barbara Ann (Lawler) Flegge

Barbara Ann (Lawler) Flegge, age 86, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House.

Barbara Ann was born at home in Akron, Ohio on March 31, 1933 to John and Bertha (Keenan) Lawler. She was a graduate of Manchester High School and went on to receive her diploma in nursing in the final class graduating from People’s Hospital in Akron. While working at Round Lake Christian Assembly summer camp in 1953, she met the camp lifeguard, Thomas Flegge, who would later become her husband. They were married in 1955 and shared 64 happy and blessed years together.

Barbara Ann enjoyed a fulfilling career as a registered nurse, working at several hospitals and family physician offices before retiring. Barbara lovingly called Amherst, Ohio home for much of her life and was a longtime member of the Amherst Community Chorus. In 2016, she became a resident of Primrose Retirement Community and a member of First Christian Church of Zanesville, Ohio. Barbara enjoyed singing, cooking, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her cheerful smile and loving nature and for always taking care of others.

Barbara Ann is preceded in death by her parents: John and Bertha (Keenan) Lawler; sister Helen Kaylynn Wise; brother William Patrick Lawler; infant brother Richard Lawler; and son-in-law William Wendt.

Barbara leaves behind her beloved husband, Thomas Flegge; three children, Dawn (Timothy) Remster, Beth Ann Wendt, and Mark (Jeanne) Flegge; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank the Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care Teams, her Home Instead caregivers, and the congregation of First Christian Church of Zanesville for their exceptional and loving care.

A funeral service will be held at the church on Monday, January 27th, 2020 at 10 AM with Reverend Margot Connor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. A committal service will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 at 1PM at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Genesis Palliative Care Specialist Home Program, 1330 Ashland Avenue, Medical Arts Building III, Zanesville OH 43701.
