Carajean Goodchild Obituary

Carajean left this world as she lived life, on her terms and in her own time. The reality is we lost Carajean on July 27, 2024, as the result of a motorcycle accident that took the life of her friend, Brian Winner. During the last 18 months we, her family, as well as her amazing medical team did all we could to support her and give her body the chance to heal but unfortunately love alone was not enough to cure her and she remained in a coma since the accident.

Carajean was truly the bright light of our family. Being the baby she was spoiled by her big sisters. She had a smile that lit up any room, she never met a stranger. This trait scared us; we all feared she could easily be lured into the back of a van by chicken nuggets or kittens! She was bold and confident and always spoke her mind whether you wanted to hear it or not. She loved to take in strays both animals and humans! More times than I can count we would wake up to a random person sleeping on our couch. Carajean wanted to help everyone she could, given more time she just might have saved the world. Having just graduated high school in May of 2024, she was in the middle of setting goals and figuring out what she wanted to do next. She always said she wanted to be a nurse like mom and mom tried to talk her out of that! (nurse friends will understand). There is no doubt that whatever she decided she would have been amazing. During her short life she enjoyed babysitting for several family friends and worked as a bagger at Kroger. For two summers she was a lifeguard at the Frazeysburg pool and most recently was working at Home Depot.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Steve and Melissa Scott; her sisters: Brooke and Adam Coates, Rhiannon Shaw and Josh Bickford-O’Neil; her nephew Jensen Bickford-O’Neil; step siblings: Cassidy Scott, Chase Scott-Norris, Chelsie Scott-Norris and Joey Scott (Sam) and their children: Nova, Cassie and Jason; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents George and Wilma Shaw; her aunt Martha Conrad; and her special little bestie, Haselyn Burke.

During the last 18 months hundreds of people have messaged us telling us the impact Carajean had on their lives, some common themes keep coming up:

She was a great friend

Full of life, laughter and love

Strong, bold, bright, unique, courageous, and funny

A sweet girl

A smile that lit up every room

She helped me through my problems; she was always there for her friends

Spoke her mind no matter what

Vibrant, funny, caring and a good human

“You were unapologetically you!”

We agree and are so happy to hear so many positive stories about our girl, we always knew she was special and are glad so many of you thought so too!

The family has so much gratitude to so many people who have prayed for us and for contributing money and food over the last 18 months, we would not have made it without this support, and we are very humbled by the outpouring we received. There are far too many people to list however we need to give special thanks to the staff at Grant Medical Center, Select Specialty Hospital-Victorian Village, Dr. Matthew Hammer and the staff at Centerburg Pointe. A big thank you to Nashport-Irville Methodist Church who walked every step of this journey beside us. We could not have brought Carajean home without the help and support from Shrivers Hospice, with their help we had 14 days in the comfort of our home. Memorial contributions may be made in Carajean’s name to Shrivers Hospice Foundation, PO Box 3506, Zanesville, OH 43701.
