Edward Smith Obituary

Edward F. Smith, of Nashport, unexpectedly passed away on September 5th.  Ed was born to Elmo and Virginia (Treadway) Smith in Oak Hill, West Virginia.  He later moved with his parents to Pomeroy, Ohio where he attended middle and high school.  He met the love of his life, Janet, and they were married shortly after high school.  Ed proudly served in the United States Army, having been stationed in Germany and Oklahoma with Janet by his side, before they settled in Nashport, Ohio.  Ed earned an engineering degree from Hocking College and spent his career working in the ceramics, automotive, and steel industries as a Certified Quality Engineer.  Ed was a hard worker, expert gardener, loved Buckeye football, enjoyed the outdoors, and created woodcrafts with Janet for their side hobby business for over 30 years.  Ed also loved making his famous homemade fudge candy to share at Christmas, and he really enjoyed the beautiful colors of fall.  Above all else, Ed loved and treasured his family.  He was so proud of his three daughters and six grandchildren.

Ed will be sorely missed by his wife Janet (Mees) Smith of 51 years, daughters Kimberly (Matthew) Phelps of Pickerington, Tracy (Joshua) Rector of Zanesville, Kristan (Richard) Owens of New Hampshire, grandchildren Brady, Spencer, and Gavin Phelps, Evan and Chase Rector, Elizabeth Owens, one brother Alvin Smith.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents Elmo and Virginia Smith, and brother Steve Smith.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Angel Retired Volunteer Firefighter, who went above and beyond to assist Ed and Janet during their time of need.

A private family service will be held.  Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
