George Figgins Obituary

George Figgins,87, of Zanesville passed away on Friday November 17, 2023. He was born on February 29, 1936 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late George C. and Viola Jane Lindsey Figgins. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School. He previously worked at Diamond Power in Lancaster, Racine/Rexnord in Zanesville and retired from Techneglas in Columbus, where he worked internationally in Korea, Lithuania, India, and Japan as well as throughout the United States. He was a member of National Power Fluid Association, American Legion, Coburn United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of West Muskingum Lions Club where he served as President for many years. George served our country and protected our freedom in the Ohio National Guard.

George enjoyed working in his workshop, especially supervising his grandson, Andrew with his 4-H projects.  As an excellent cook he enjoyed teaching his granddaughter, Kaitlyn how to cook. George and his wife Shirley were well known for hosting their annual New Year’s Eve party for many years.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley Beavers Figgins; two daughters: Kaleen Blosser of Hopewell and Heather (Marion “Sonny” ) Krause, Jr. of Zanesville; one grandson, Andrew “Drew” Blosser of Hopewell; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Dawn Krause of Zanesville; one brother, Larry Figgins; Brother-in-law Al (Phyllis) Beavers; and sister-in-law Eileen Beavers all of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday, November 21 and one hour prior to services at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME,1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am in the Snouffer Chapel with longtime friend Josh Snouffer officiating.  Burial with full military honors by George Selsam VFW Post 1058 and Basil Grimes American Legion Post 29 will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
