Jacob Edward Burns, 35, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born August 26, 1985 in Zanesville to David and Bonnie Burns. He was a Philo graduate and retired as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Air Force on November 27, 2019. He had a strong relationship with his military brothers, while serving he was a Combat Arms Instructor and was known around the world for his knowledge.
While in The United States Air Force he received the following Medals and Awards: Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Good Conduct Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 1 Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal with “N” Device.
Jacob was a momma’s boy and referred to his mother as “Moms” and he also had a special love for his mother in law Sandy Martin. He was a member of the Prince Hall F & AM in Alconbury, England, Common Level Lodge #163 of the Overseas District of the MWPHGL of Louisiana and the Baboon Congress. He enjoyed pro sporting events, especially the Cleveland Browns, Manchester United and The Ohio State University. He played soccer, basketball, football and was assistant varsity soccer coach at Philo High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Michelle Burns, whom he married November 5, 2013; a very proud father to his children: Sydney Noelle, Maci Lynn and Lincoln Everett; a sister Heather (Murph) Murphy; his grandparents: Kay Tyson and Hannah Burns; in laws: Jerry Willard and Sandy Martin and Marty and Shelly Schenider; sister in law Melissa Schneider; cousins: Tom (Ashley) Samson and Gauge; nieces and nephews: Rya, Madalynn and Alex; aunts: Trish (Bruce) Rittlebarger , Lisa (Rick) Perone and Donetta Burns; uncles Jake (Jennifer) Cole and Luke Burns; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clata “Big Daddy” Tyson, Jim Burns, Ray “Old Grandpa” and Irene Martin; and an uncle Doug Burns.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8PM Thursday, April 8, 2021, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Masonic services will begin at 7:30PM. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Friday, April 9 in the Snouffer Chapel with his godmother Misty Cromwell officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
