John Boetcher Obituary

John Henry Boetcher, 80, of Zanesville passed away on Friday April 25, 2025 at The Ohio State University Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born in Zanesville, OH on August 7, 1944 to the late Henry Virgil Boetcher and Maybelle Boyce Boetcher of Blue Rock, OH.  John was a 1962 graduate of Philo High School and was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1963-1967 in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) during the Vietnam War.  After his military service, he enjoyed most of his career working in the theatre and motion picture business. He represented 20th Century Fox Film Corporation as a motion picture salesman in the Western Division Headquarters in Denver, Colorado before moving back to Zanesville.  He enjoyed all sports and was a licensed high school and college basketball official. He was a member of the American Legion Post 29 of Zanesville.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary “Cathy” Frick Boetcher; daughters, Jan (Jeff) Smith, Valarie (Joey) Bivins, Missy (Fred) Beckert and Marti (Chris) Cordray; 10 grandchildren, Carter (Kat Straatmann) Smith, Ana Mae Smith, Malak Kader Bone, Mariah Fayne, Phoenix Fiiyah Suppliiyah, Tre Bivins, Kyra Bivins, Cope (Lydia Wood) Beckert, Amanda Cordray and Josh (Karissa Sark) Cordray;  and a great granddaughter Destiny Boetcher. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Boetcher, Virgil Edward Boetcher; sisters-in-law, Margie Boetcher and Glenna Boetcher; and a grandson Zach T. Boetcher.

Visitation will be held from 11-1 PM on Saturday May 3, 2025, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Funeral services along with Military Honors will follow at 1PM with Pastor Bill Meaige officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park at a later date. Cremation care has been entrusted to The Snouffer Crematory.
