Mona Jean (Downing) Abele

Mona Jean (Downing) Abele, 90, passed peacefully at home on July 9, 2024.  She was the daughter of the late Denzil and Vernice Downing of Zanesville, OH. 

She is survived by Richard, her loving husband of 73 years; her daughter Ann; her two sons: Rick (Lauren) and Adam (Jeannine); grandchildren: Elizabeth Nicole (Brad) Manz, Kathleen (Matt) Schisler, Eric (Anne) Stoltz, and Alexa Abele; eight great-grandchildren; her two brothers: Jack (Gwen) Downing and David (Lori Clark) Downing; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws: Louis and Kathleen Abele; brother-in-law Louis Abele; sister-in-law Joann Downing; and son-in-law Paul Leiter.

According to her wishes, a private family memorial will occur at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Castle, 418 4th St, Marietta, OH 45750-2003 or the Cystinosis Research Foundation, 9200 Von Karman Avenue, Suite 920, Irvine, CA 92612.
