Richard Frank Matthews

Richard Frank Matthews, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Genesis Hospital. He was born September 14, 1938 in Zanesville to the late Hubert and Ruth Westenbarger Matthews. Richard was a Draftsman with McGraw-Edison and taught Drafting at Mid-East Vocational School.  Richard served our country and protected our freedom in the United States Army. He enjoyed walking, fishing, tennis, golf, Black Hand Gorge bike trail and he was always willing to help fix anything. He had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. He was most happy when he was spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his son Thomas (Marsha) Matthews; a brother Ronnie (Gibby) Matthews; two grandchildren: Brad Matthews and Ashley (Marques) McPeck and two step grandchildren: Brittney Berkfield and Shelby Abella.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl Gray and a brother Jerry Matthews.

Calling hours will be from 12 to 2PM Monday, April 19, 2021 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD. The funeral will begin at 2PM and burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park with full military honors by the VFW Post #1058 and American Legion Post #29.
