Richard "Dick" Lemert Harlan

Richard “Dick” Lemert Harlan, age 75 passed after a long illness at Adams Lane Care Center Thursday the 25th of January 2018 at 2:15 pm with his family present at his side. He was born September 19, 1942 to the late Harold Eugene Harlan and Norma Helen Slonaker Hayman.

Mr. Harlan was very active prior to his illness. He coached biddy league football at Far East and East Tigers. He attended his son Taylor’s various sports even after becoming ill. He enjoyed watching football, was an avid bowler and tending his flower garden.  Mr. Harlan was a meat cutter by trade working at the IGA stores in Zanesville. Prior to Mr. Harlan residing at Adams Lane, and the death of his third wife, he was cared for in the home by his son Taylor.

He is survived by his first wife Marilyn Ann (Dahl) Maloney and their five children: Denise (Jeff) Border, Monica (Mike) King, Christine (Steven) Wolford, Edward (Roxanna) Harlan and Mary (Larry) Botsko.

He is survived by his second wife Mary Alice Wilson and their son Richard Harold Harlan and life partner Janelle Shaffer. Mr. Harlan assisted Mary with raising her children from a previous marriage Doreen (Mike) Maurer, Martha (Ben) Kennedy, Rose Davis and Robert (Lori) Davis.

Mr. Harlan’s third wife Diana L. Taylor Harlan passed March 27, 2007. Together they had a son Taylor Don (Kira) Harlan. Mr. Harlan assisted with the raising of her children of a previous marriage: Connie (Mercer) Hankinson and David (Jessie) Mercer.

He is also survived by his brother Harold (Leslie) Harlan of Zanesville; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a niece Kelli Orr of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his sister Janet Faye (Harlan) Orr.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7PM, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE.  The memorial service will begin at 7PM with Pastor Robert Davis officiating.  Mr. Harlan has chosen to be cremated with ashes being distributed to his children.
