Rita Rose Spurrier

Rita Rose Spurrier, 95, of Zanesville, Ohio, died Friday afternoon, November 8, 2024, at the Oaks of Bethesda in Zanesville, Ohio.

Born December 17, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, she is the daughter of the late Herbert and Zita Jadwin Swartz of Pleasant City, Ohio.

Rita graduated from Pleasant City High School. She retired from Champion Spark Plug in Cambridge, Ohio, where she also worked as the Union Secretary for several years. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the East Cambridge Church of Christ.

Rita loved to sing and for several years, sang with the Sweet Adeline’s Chapter in Zanesville, Ohio, where she was also one of their seamstresses, making their costumes for performances. She enjoyed oil painting and shopping with her friends from dawn to dusk, often ending with a stop at one of her favorite ice cream parlors. Rita also enjoyed camping, traveling, and staying in Florida in the winter months with family.

Surviving her in death are her grandson, Tracy A. (Ashley) Spurrier II; three great grandchildren: Lexi, Trey and Logan Spurrier, all of Heath, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Jodi Swartz; a nephew Brad Swartz of Columbus, Ohio; and a daughter in law Donna Spurrier Fulton of Nashport, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis W. Spurrier; her son Tracy A. Spurrier; her grandson, Trevor Spurrier; and a brother, Raymond Swartz. 

Visitation will be held from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE, with Pastor Ron VanWey officiating. Rita will be laid to rest at the Guernsey County Memory Gardens, Cambridge, Ohio.
