Robert Alan Rider, 83, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Clay Gardens Place. He was born December 20, 1937, in Cleveland to the late Fred and Viola Yetter Rider. He graduated from Ohio University in Athens. After teaching at Brooklyn High School for seven years, he received his Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University and went on to teach mathematics for 33 years at Ohio University-Zanesville. He loved to sing, loved his family and was active in the community. He was very active in The Boy Scouts of America, Y-City Barbershop Chorus and was an active member of Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Handy Rider and four children: Jeff (Sherry) Rider, Lynn (Thomas) Bolin, Jill (John) Lane and Doug (Holly) Rider and ten grandchildren: Harley Davidson Rider, Thomas “Trey” Bolin, Jesse Lane, Joshua Bolin, Jenna Davis, Wyatt Rider, Jackie Lane, Eliana Rider, Nathan Bolin and Melissa Rider.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM Friday, October 29, 2021, at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W. MILITARY ROAD. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Saturday, October 30, at Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 545 Richey Road, with Pastor Andy Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
