Theta Wilhelm Obituary

ROSEVILLE

Theta Hope Wilhelm, 86, was called home to the Lord on September 7th at 1:50 PM, at Genesis Hospital. She had been suffering from a sudden illness. Theta was surrounded by her loving family and Pastor. She passed away while watching her beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.

Theta was born to Elden Tatman and Agnes (Rice) Tatman, on October 8th, 1932 in Roseville, Ohio. She is survived by her son, Nick (Carol) Wilhelm of Zanesville; two grandsons, Ryan (Ashley) Wilhelm of Blue Rock, Neil Wilhelm of Zanesville; and great-grandchildren Zoe and Michael Wilhelm of Blue Rock. Also surviving are sisters, Mary (Warren) Walpole, of Crooksville and Virginia Hanifan of Zanesville; sister in law, Georgeanna Tatman of Crestview, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Theta was proceeded in death by her parents, and brother, William Tatman, brother in law, Francis Hanifan and niece, Tina Williams.

The village of Roseville was Theta’s home for 83 years, and she was well known among the community. She was a loyal disciple of the Lord and lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she had many close friends. Theta often sang and taught Sunday school during her decades of attendance. Reading was Theta’s favorite pastime, and she was a frequent visitor of the Roseville branch of the Muskingum County Library System.

Family and friends held a special place in Theta’s heart. For as long as she was able, Theta enjoyed cooking and hosting family dinners. Theta loved animals and was particularly fond of birds. She raised several domestic varieties over the years, and enjoyed watching and feeding wild birds around her back yard. She also cared for many stray and displaced animals that happened by her neighborhood. Sewing was another craft that Theta enjoyed, and she took part in many elaborate group quilting projects with her friends. She also fabricated many articles of clothing, including dresses for weddings, proms, and other special occasions.

Theta’s surviving family would like to thank all who provided her with care during her final years. They also extend gratitude to Pastor Jerry Sutton, and wife, Elsie, of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for their support and spiritual council. They would like to thank Pastor Justin Williams, of Coburn United Methodist Church for blessing Theta with his gift of singing during her hospitalization.

Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Roseville on Thursday, September 12th at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jerry Sutton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 55 Roseville, OH 43777.
